It was a push-and-pull affair at the registrar’s office and the less than 10 birth registration officials were overwhelmed. Queues were growing longer at the offices where hundreds of parents and students were seeking to verify birth certificates or apply for the documents. This led to commotions and others complaining of the un-fairness and slowness in issuing of the documents.
However Gachia Irungu, who is the Isiolo county civil registrar defended the allegations saying that there were no such complains that had been reported to him. He also added that in a day they were currently issuing at least 300 certificates in contrary to the normal number of 500 certificates in a month.
The birth certificates were required to register learners so they can get unique identifiers that would be used duringexams, replacing index numbers that were used previously. The deadline for registration was Tuesday.
This is happening even after the government yesterday extended the registration of learners on the National Education Management Information System to March 31.
