Activist Okiya Omtatah has moved to court challenging government move of shutting down of TV stations. In a petition which is expected to be filed this morning, Mr. Omtatah argues that the move by the State to shut down TV stations including Citizen, NTV and KTN News is a violation of Article 33 and 34 of the Constitution. According to Article 33(1) every person is guaranteed the right to freedom of expression, which includes, freedom to seek, receives or imparts information or ideas.
He wants the court to compel the relevant authorities to restore the transmission of the affected stations.
He has sued CS Joe Mucheru who is in charge of ICT and CS Fred Matiang'I.
